Inches, millimeters, or picas: which measurement will you use to size your graphic? Make sure you follow the proper size requirements for graphics.
Most charts, graphs, and tables are sized to be one column width or two columns width:
- One column width: 3.5 inches, 88.9 millimeters, or 21 picas
- Two columns width: 7.16 inches, 182 millimeters, or 43 picas
IEEE recommends that you avoid sizing graphics to less than one column wide, as extreme enlargements may distort your images and result in poor reproduction.
It is easy for IEEE to reduce the sizes of your graphics. But, in most cases, IEEE cannot increase them without negatively impacting quality.
